Feet, what do I need your for when I have wings to fly?
- Frida Kahlo

I wanted to create a design that evoked flight, and lightness. Be it soaring through the clouds, communing with the cosmos, or simply just a good day where you feel light on your toes, and light in your heart.

Citrine, sometimes called yellow quartz, is also member of the vast quartz family that includes stones such as agate, chalcedony, carnelian, amethyst, jasper, chrysoprase and herkimer diamond. Favoured for its ornamental value since the Bronze age thanks to its clarity and golden hue, citrine is now celebrated an alternative birthstone for November babies.
Traditionally thought to radiate the energy of the sun and generate positive energy, citrine is said to be a "success" stone, so much in fact that 17th century Scottish warriors often chose impressively faceted citrines to adorn their swords, cairngorm brooches and sgian-dubhs (a small dagger worn carried in the sock) to ensure success in battle (there are even records of entire sword hilts being made of citrine!) These carved wings were sourced from PierreRouge in Marieville, Québec.

Turquoise, beloved for more than 3000 years of human history, has long been believed to be a talisman of health, protection and luck - especially if given by a friend. There is even an Arabic proverb that states that a turquoise given by a loving hand carries with it happiness and good fortune!
According to GIA.edu (the Gemological Institute of America) turquoise's name comes from the French expression 'pierre tourques', or “Turkish stone.” This name, used from the thirteenth century onwards, lends weight to the theory that this beautiful blue stone probably first arrived in Europe from Turkish sources. It is now considered one of the birthstones for December babies. These beautiful specimens came from the Tyrone mine in southwest New Mexico and were sourced from Turquoise Moose.

These airy, open hoop earrings are set with golden wings of carved citrine, accented with serene, teal-blue turquoise cabochons. A simple, striking ring of round-profile, sterling silver wire supports the stone settings, the silver gleaming with high polish to echo the glow of the stones. A lightweight statement earring, these measure just over 1.75" (4.5 cm) long by just over .75" (2 cm) wide at their widest point. The citrine wings break the continuity of the hoops, and are set with solid backs that are highly polished to reflect light through the stones, while the turquoises are set upon disk of silver that seem to cling to the edge of the hoop like a bubble. They swing from a pair of my custom shaped sterling earwigs, and a pair of clear silicone stoppers is included to keep them securely on your ears.
I have recycled the some of the silver used to make these earrings; melting sterling scrap down to form silver ingots, flattening and drawing the silver down to plate and wire using hammers and my rolling mill, and then using this newly reclaimed silver to create my work.

All of my jewelry is made by me in my cozy home studio and will be shipped to you as shown, beautifully packaged and ready for giving as a gift for someone special (like yourself...?)
