The first piece of silver jewelry I ever bought myself (at 12 yrs old, on a school field trip to Montreal) was a simple little rhodonite ring, and rhodonite has been one of my favorite stones ever since. Derived from the Greek word 'rhodon', for rose, rhodonite's rosy pink and black veining is thanks to its manganese composition that creates dramatic banding and patterning. Used for carved decorative items and sarcophagi since the Middle Ages, its rosy pink was considered a magical talisman to promote strong bones and sharp hearing, but like all pink stones, its radiant rose has come to symbolize happiness, tenderness and joyful love.

These graphic, glossy rhodonites are set in plain edged, handmade bezels at the bottom of simple, wide hoops of sterling silver wire. The pink and black rhodonites measure approximately 14mm by 18mm, and are a cool, subtly textured mauve pink shot through with dramatic black veins. They are highly polished with the fine glossy shine inherent to rhodonite. These stones are set in open backed bezels so that their unique patterning can be enjoyed from both sides.
From the bottom edge of the rhodonites sprout 3 lacy petals of sterling silver wire that each suspend a single polished rhodonite bead on a hand-wired, ball-tipped headpin. This simple fringe adds lots of playful movement to these earrings, and another single petal at their upper edge connects them to handmade, rounded standard 20g sterling silver earwires for comfortable wear (a pair of clear silicone stoppers is included to keep them securely on your ears.)
These are a luxurious length for a dangle earring, measuring 1.6" (4.2 cm) long by just over 1" (2.6 cm) wide at their widest point.
